When Mahendra Singh Dhoni Predicted Rohit Sharma Would Score 264

One of the biggest reasons for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s unprecedented success in international cricket is his far-sightedness and out of the box thinking. The wonder boy from Ranchi shocked one and all in his very first assignment as the Indian captain when he led a young and an inexperienced team to World T20 glory in 2007. His ploy of giving the ball to Robin Uthappa and Virender Sehwag during the ball out against Pakistan was a master stroke. Dhoni further strengthened his uniqueness by giving the ball to Joginder Sharma in a tense final against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Time and again, the man has proved he is one of a kind and there is absolutely no doubt that the country is lucky to have such a maverick skipper. ‘Captain Cool’, as he is fondly called, helped India scale newer heights. Even the best in the business fail to understand his thinking and probably that is the biggest asset for India’s most decorated skipper.
Well, one can take a measure of his brilliant understanding of the game when he predicted that Rohit Sharma will cross the 250-runs during a One-Day International against Sri Lanka on 13 November 2013. He missed that series due to injury but made sure to make his presence felt with a tweet that turned out to be true.
He tweeted:“If Rohit doesn’t get out he will certainly get 250 today”

Rohit Sharma went on to prove his captain by playing a historic knock of 264. In the process, he overtook Virender Sehwag’s 219 to become the highest scorer in ODI history. His stunning innings came off only 173 balls and with 33 fours and nine gigantic sixes.
