Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik’s match-winning cameo of 29 runs off eight balls ensured a thrilling victory for India in the finals of the Nidahas Trophy. But the Bangladesh cricketers weren’t the only ones at the receiving end of the head-spinning contest.
A video clip of Adel Shikder’s murdered body went viral within days after Bangladesh’s heart-breaking loss. It was said that the 28-year-old cricket fan lost a bet which resulted in his murder after he failed to pay back the sum. It prompted a hunt operation, and the mystery has been solved finally. Police said that three people were seen in the video. Out of which, two of them appeared to slit the throat of Shikder, who failed to counter-attack.
Red fruit juice syrup was used as fake blood, and the clip was sent to the person to whom Shikder had lost a bet.
“He hired a film make-up artist who is an occasional videographer to film his ‘murder’ after he lost a bet of 150,000 taka ($1,800) on the Nidahas trophy final between Bangladesh and India,” senior Dhaka police official Kamruzzaman Sardar told AFP.
“He had won 40,000 taka from the same person during the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka semi-final, which Bangladesh won. He spent the money and then he made a bigger bet in the final,” Sardar said.
Police said Shikder called up his younger brother and changed his voice, informing that the body was in Chittagong, approximately 200 kilometers from the capital. Police and relatives searched for the corpses before his parent’s complained. The makeup artist was arrested on Saturday, and a day later Shikder was detained in central district of Faridabad.
“I did it so that he did not seek any money from me. I did not realise it would cause all this,” Shikder said before the media after his arrest.
