India’s women team opener Punam Raut has revealed she and her teammates were disappointed after not being able to show their excitement to Akshay Kumar after the World Cup final loss.
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar was one of the biggest attractions at the Lord’s when India’s women team was fighting it out against England in the final of the World Cup on July 23. In fact, the actor was so excited to cheer for the Women in Blue that he had also posted a video on Twitter sharing his excitement to watch the game and also narrated how he ran barefoot to catch a train so that he could be on time for the match.
But unfortunately, the match ended in a heartbreaking manner as Mithali Raj & Co. lost the final by just 9 runs. After the match, Akshay was seen sharing some jovial time with the players.

But Punam Raut, who was the top-scorer in the title-decider, said that the players would have enjoyed more with the actor had they managed to lift the coveted trophy.
“Many of us girls are fans of Akshay and it was great to meet him when he came to Lord’s, But unfortunately we could not show our excitement as we were very sad after the loss,” Punam, who scored 86 at the iconic stadium, was quoted as saying by Mid-day.

The ladies have been garnering praise from all over for their valiant effort in the just-concluded tournament. After playing the qualifiers to make it to the main event, they defeated the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia to make it to the final. Mithali Raj and her team was looking well-set to overhaul England’s 229-run target in the final when they were comfortably placed at 191 for 3 but a dramatic collapse quashed their hopes of winning the match as they lost their last 7 wickets for just 28 runs.
