Marcus Stoinis Cleared To Play Champions Trophy 2017

Marcus Stoinis has been cleared to play ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Cricket Australia confirmed on Wednesday. Stoinis injured himself during the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL) when he landed on his shoulder awkwardly during a practice session. This forced the all-rounder to be ruled out of the tournament.

It later jeopardised his participation in Champions Trophy. He waited for results of the scans and had to prove his fitness so as to decide upon his chances of participation in the tournament.

Stoinis has a big responsibility on his shoulders as he edged out James Faulkner, the Man of the Match of Australia’s 2015 World Cup triumph, to get a place in the side.

The all-rounder has played a total of three ODI’s and one T20Is. His grabbed limelight in the game of Chappell-Hadlee Trophy when he single-handedly took the team to a brink of a win against New Zealand in 2017 playing an innings of 146* but it was a run-out in the end that kept Australia away from a remarkable win.

Stoinis along with few other members of the side and coaching staff will fly to England to London tomorrow night i.e. Thursday. The other members of the side who are busy playing in IPL will join the squad later.

At the same time, the members of Indian team will also fly to England to take part in the tournament.

Australia will face New Zealand in their first game of the tournament on June 2. They will face Bangladesh and hosts England in their next two games on June 5 and 10 respectively. The current World Champions have won ICC Champions Trophy twice in the year 2006 and 2009 respectively.

India is the current champions of Champion Trophy as they defeated England in the final of the tournament n the year 2013 which was a 20 over the contest.
