ToggleMarcus Stoinis, the Australia all-rounder has been immensely criticized for imitating Mohammad Hasnain’s bowling action with a throwing motion, hence questioning the ICC who recently cleared the Pakistan pacer’s action.
The incident happened during the Hundred game between Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles on Sunday. But what left former Pakistan captain Salman Butt more furious was that Marcus Stoinis was let away with his gesture despite questioning the cricket’s governing body for clearing Mohammad Hasnain’s bowling action.
Batting for Southern Brave, Marcus Stoinis was served with a short ball from Mohammad Hasnain that clocked 142kph. Mistiming the pull shot, Marcus Stoinis sent it high into the air and it was caught by the fielder at mid-off during the team’s seven-wicket loss on Sunday.
Marcus Stoinis Imitating Mohammad Hasnain’s Bowling Action Was Below The Belt Action: Salman Butt
On his way back to the dugout, Marcus Stoinis was spotted imitating Mohammad Hasnain’s bowling action with a throwing motion. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt fumed at Marcus Stoinis for his gesture and felt that it was a “below-the-belt action”.
“It was below-the-belt action. I mean ICC just cleared his (Hasnain) actions then what’s the point? It is not about where he did it? It can be IPL, or PSL or The Hundred but here the talk is about international cricket. The fact is that when ICC has cleared his actions, the authorities have had a look at his actions then who are you? Hasnain will already be under tight scrutiny because he just made a comeback,” he said.
Marcus Stoinis will not be formally sanctioned after appearing to question the legality of Mohammad Hasnain’s action during a match in the Hundred. Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 37 in 27 balls in South Brave’s seven-wicket loss to Oval Invincibles at The Oval in London.
Marcus Stoinis Unlikely To Face Sanction For Breaching ECB’s Code Of Conduct
According to a report, the Aussie was spoken to by match referee Dean Cosker but is unlikely to face any sanction for breaching the ECB’s code of conduct.
“Moreover, Stoinis got away with it. He got away with it something that others might not. Why was he let away with that? Is this even funny? If players cross their limit then they should be punished,” Butt added.
Notably, Mohammad Hasnain was suspended for his bowling action after being called by the umpires during Big Bash League. But ICC cleared his remodelled action earlier this June.
In the ongoing Hundred tournament, he has picked three wickets in three matches and umpires have not reported on his bowling actions in any of those three games. Mohammad Hasnain has played eight ODIs and 18 T20Is for Pakistan so far, picking up 29 wickets combinedly, and he has an impressive economy rate in the shorter format so far.
Mohammad Hasnain hasn’t played for Pakistan after his bowling suspension was revoked with his last appearance being made in December 2021 against the West Indies. The 22-year-old underwent biomechanics tests in late January, with the findings from the Lahore University of Management of Sciences confirming that his elbow was under the ICC’s permissible 15-degree limit extension. In June, the Pakistan pacer was cleared to bowl in international cricket following an assessment at the ICC accredited center in Lahore.
