Mark Boucher to Coach Cape Town Based Franchise in T20 Global League

Private T20 leagues have certainly caught a grip over the cricketing nations. This time it’s a T20 league in South Africa. After the success of franchise cricket leagues like IPL, Big Bash League and CPL, a global T20 league is being organised in South Africa now.

And the league has already managed to rope in many big players with Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Kevin Pietersen being some of the big overseas marquee players.

Dubai based businessman Ajay Sethi is the owner of Cape Town based franchise. It was earlier mentioned that the team would be named Nelson Mandela Bay Stars.

The team will be coached by former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher in the inaugural T20 Global league. He will be assisted by former Zimbabwean fast bowler Heath Streak, who has been appointed as the bowling coach. Malibongwe Maketa will be the assistant coach of the team.

One of South Africa’s great fast bowler and the first black African to play for the country, Makhaya Ntini was appointed the brand ambassador of the franchise. South African legend Graeme Pollock was chosen as an ambassador of the team.

Another cricketing great and legend Clive Lloyd will also be the ambassador of the team. Former India cricketer and son of legendary Sunil Gavaskar, Rohan Gavaskar will be the team’s media director and spokesperson.

Team owner Ajay Sethi said that he and his side would like to inherit Mandela’s principles in the team and play for the people of the country. He said,

We wanted a team that would be founded with the same values that guided Madiba, My thanks to the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality for embracing us with such generosity. For us, this team is about being a big part of the Nelson Mandela Bay community and the Eastern Cape for years to come. We want the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars to be the People’s Team.”
