Mark Wood Declared Fit For Penultimate Test Against South Africa

Mark Wood, England pacer, has been declared fit to take part on the third and penultimate Test against South Africa, starting on July 27. Wood had injured his left heel but scans have cleared him to take part in the game.

Wood’s short Test career has been marred by injuries as ankle problems have jeopardized his appearance in the longest format of the game. It was just his 10th Test match since his debut, which came in the year 2015. Wood recently made a comeback on the international circuit when he was called in England’ squad for the Champions Trophy. Later, he found himself in the Test squad as well but has failed to perform as per the expectations.

He has just one wicket in the two Test matches that have been played so far and has also gone for runs. There can be a case when skipper Joe Root might look for Toby Roland-Jones for the third Test. The right-handed pacer made his ODI debut against South Africa in the Lord’s ODI before ICC Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Gary Ballance has been ruled out for the third Test match due to fracture on his index finger. He was hit on his finger by Morne Morkel and the scams confirmed about his unavailability for the penultimate game. Though the selectors have not yet ruled him out of the fourth Test and there might be the case when they look back towards their number three batsman for the final game.

The four Test-match series is evenly poised with both the teams having a win in their account. The third Test will decide which way the series will go.
