New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill has been ruled out of the second One-day International game of the three-match Chappell-Hadlee Trophy against Australia.
The 30-year-old Guptill suffered a minor hamstring injury during the first ODI in Auckland.
Kiwi Coach Mike Hesson on Tuesday has revealed it was a minor injury and for a precautionary matter, Guptill will be rested for the second game against visitors.
“Martin felt tightness in his left hamstring while fielding yesterday and after being monitored over the last 24 hours it’s become apparent he won’t quite be ready for Napier,” Hesson said.
The Black Caps middle-order batsman Dean Brownlie, who plays for Northern District appeared in ODIs in 2014 against Pakistan in Dubai, has been named as the cover for Guptill.
The 32-year-old Western Australia-born Brownlie played 14 Tests, 10 ODIs and five T20Is for New Zealand since making the debut in 2011.
“He’ll remain with the team and we’ll continue to monitor him ahead of the third ODI in Hamilton,” Hesson added.
Earlier, Guptill was ruled out of the T20 series against Bangladesh after pulling the left hamstring in the third ODI against visitors.
“He’ll remain with the team and we’ll continue to monitor him ahead of the third ODI in Hamilton,” Hesson concluded.
New Zealand is leading the three match series 1-0. The second ODI is scheduled on 2nd February in Napier.
