Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is highly impressed with Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance in ongoing Australia’s tour. The spin bowling allrounder was once again a match saver for India in the first T20I in Canberra. He smacked 44* runs off 23 balls with striking five fours and one six to take India’s total to 161 runs after India had lost six wickets for 114.
While talking to ESPNCricinfo, Gautam Gambhir stated that Jadeja has got the x-factor and has matured with the experience in international cricket. And, India is benefiting now with his all-rounder efforts, including his athletic fielding.
“He has got the X-factor and now he is delivering. Some people do flourish in the initial stage of international cricket but some get mature over a period of time. And now we are seeing matured Ravindra Jadeja, who knows his ability with the bat. He has always been an unbelievable fielder. He can chip in with the ball. But now you can enjoy the fruit of his overall talent,” Gautam Gambhir said.
Jadeja should bat at number five: Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir has also suggested that India should promote him to the number five position because it will offer additional space for either bowler or allrounder. He explained that until Hardik Pandya is fully fit, India could go with Jadeja as a middle-order batsman while adding a bowler in the team, which they badly need.
“I would love to bat him in no.5……because then I will add an all-rounder,” he said
“You got to use his form. He has got the ability. He has Test hundreds and has run in all conditions in white-ball cricket. So, why not just try and push him at No.5 and work with combinations,” Gautam Gambhir added.
Meanwhile, India has won the first T20I with 11 runs as Australia could only post 150 runs. Jadeja didn’t bowl because he was ruled out because of a concussion while Chahal was swooped in as his replacement. It will be interesting to see whether the allrounder will play next T20I or not.
