Virendra Shewag who has been abondoned from Indian Cricket Team has been designated as the captain of Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC) team for the upcoming four day champion county match which is going to be held against Durham in March 23 at Abu Dhabi.
Apart from Shewag Sri Lankan cricket sensation Muttiah Muralitharan has also been handovered the charge of leading the team in Emirates twenty20 tournament.
“Virender Sehwag and Muttiah Muralitharan have been confirmed as part of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) squad that will travel to Abu Dhabi next month,” the MCC stated.
“I was delighted to be asked to play in this match, and being able to captain the MCC side makes it even more of a privilege.” Shewag said who is also going to appear in MCCv Rest of the World Lord`s Bicentenary match on July 5.
MCC has selected other former players like England’s Monty Panesar, Sri Lanka’s Jayawardene. The club includes other young country players like Kent`s Daniel Bell-Drummond, Lancashire`s Luis Reece. Middlesex opener Sam Robson has got the chance to be a part of thi championship due to his great performance for England Lions in Sri Lanka this winter. Nottinghamshire cricket stars Samit Patel Andre Adams and Harry Gurney also get included in the team.
“We`re taking a very strong squad out to Abu Dhabi so I`m sure the standard of cricket on show will be very high. It`s also very exciting to be playing under lights with the pink ball. It`s a big innovation for the game and I`m very keen to be involved in any initiative which aims to increase the appeal of cricket to a wider audience,” Shewag seems quite excited.
The MCC squad will reach Abu Dhabi at March 18 for Emirates Twenty20 tournament which is going to take place at March 21.
Muralitharan will give his star appearenece for the MCC squad in this tournament which is going to feature the pink cricket ball. It will be a day light match. MCC stated that its great to be the part of something as it will be played with a pink ball.
