Glenn Maxwell likely to be fit for tri-series

Stephen Fleming, the coach of Melbourne Stars, has backed Glenn Maxwell and has said that he hopes the all-rounder will do wonders for his team in the upcoming season of Big Bash League 2016/17.

Maxwell recently made a comeback in the ODI team for the Chappell-Hadlee series against New Zealand but was not given a chance. His last ODI came almost six months back against West Indies but he was given a chance in T20s against Sri Lanka in September. He slammed a century in the first T20I and followed it with a half century in the second and the final T20I.

Maxwell performed well in the practise games before the start of the Big bash League and Fleming wished that Maxwell will be able to once again show his great form in the league as well, “He enjoyed the run the other day, playing the two games, (and) we’ve got another couple of games for him to get back into some sort of form in the middle.”

“I have no doubt he will be ready for the first game. He’s pretty natural … it doesn’t matter how much he plays.”

“Hopefully, he can win one or two for us before he gets picked (for Australia. “It would be unfortunate for him, (if he is not picked) but it would be a win for us. You want that type of player on your side every time,” he said.

Before the start of the league, Melbourne Stars suffered a big blow as their star bowler John Hastings has been ruled out of the league due to an injury. Fleming said that it’s a big blow for the team but will try to take his inputs from him as much as they can, “It’s a big blow. He’s a big presence off the field as well as on (it),” Fleming said. “His performances internationally and domestically have been outstanding. It’s going to be a long road back for him, but we’ll try to get him involved as much as we can,” he concluded.

The sixth edition of Big bash Leagues starts from December 20 with Melbourne Stars scheduled to play their first game of the season on December 22 against Sydney Thunders.
