  1. Breaking the meter:

In 2002 in a game at Lahore against New Zealand, Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar did something on this day that was never done in the history of cricket ever before.

The quickie from Rawalpindi was so charged up on the day, he clocked 100.04mph (161kph) on a ball he bowled to Craig McMillan in a One day International. This delivery broke the previous record held by Jeff Thompson of Australia who clocked 99.8mph in a game way back in 1975.

However, Akhtar’s delivery was not recorded as official as the ICC refused to sanction it due to lack of standard measuring tools. This was the first time in cricket that the 100mph barrier was broken.
