MI vs RR highlights: Rajasthan Royals (RR), on Monday (April 1), beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets to register their third straight win in IPL 2024 and move to the top of the points table. Set a target of 126 runs, RR chased down the total in the 16th over.
RR’s chase got off to a shaky start as Yashasvi Jaiswal departed in the very first over. The opener hit Kwena Maphaka for two fours before being caught. Jos Buttler (13) and Sanju Samson (12) could not last long either as RR found themselves reeling at 48 for 3 in the seventh over.
However, before the hosts could make further inroads in the game, in-form Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin steadied the ship. The duo shared a 40-run stand to calm down the nerves in the RR dressing room. Akash Madhwal broke the stand by dismissing Ashwin for 16.
Parag and Shubham Dubey then took Royals over the finishing line. In the 16th over, Parag hit Gerald Coetzee for two sixes in a row to complete his second consecutive fifty before hitting a four to condemn MI to their third straight loss.
MI vs RR: MI innings
Earlier in the game, RR restricted MI to a modest total of 125/9 after electing to bowl first. After losing the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya pointed out that his team would have liked to bowl first as well and it did not take Trent Boult long to show why.
In the very first over, the left-arm pacer dismissed Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir for golden ducks to reduce MI to 1 for 2. In the second over, Ishan Kishan hit Nandre Burger for a six and a four but it was not a start of any turnaround. In the third over, Boult struck again to remove Dewald Brevis for a golden duck as well before Burger dismissed Kishan for 16 in the fourth over to leave MI reeling at 20 for 4.
Captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma then stopped the rot and steadied the ship with a 56-run stand for the fifth wicket. They mixed caution with aggression to bring the innings on track. However, just when it looked like the duo would shift gears, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Pandya for 34 in the 10th over. From that position, MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually finished on 125/9.
