Clarke’s return to top flight cricket this summer restricted to BBL only

Former Australian captain, Michael Clarke has ruled out the possibility of a potential comeback to New South Wales team for the upcoming Matador Cup. Clarke has confirmed that he cannot spend four months in full-time lead-in training due to his “other commitments” .

The news was soon confirmed by Cricket NSW spokesman who said, “Clarke has decided against returning to elite cricket with the NSW Blues,” in a statement to news.com.au.

Clarke who has retired from international cricket last year after losing to England in Ashes has been speculated to start playing domestic cricket this year after the player meeting with the NSW club’s executives last month. The latest news meant that the player won’t be featuring for NSW Blues in this summer’s Sheffield Shield trophy as well.

However, Clarke still has the possibility to make a comeback to Big Bash League. The player who has started playing professional cricket this year has attracted the interest of some BBL clubs who are eager to sign him.

Despite being contracted with Sydney Thunders and the Melbourne Stars, Michael Clarke has never played much in the league but recently Sydney Sixers has expressed an interest in him if he were to play in BBL.

“We only have a few positions available on our roster and we are just working through our review process from last season. It’s a long off-season so we will wait and see how things pan out in the coming months,” Dominic Remond, General Manager of the Sixers

Clarke who has led Australia to World Cup triumph in 2015 has been a busy person since his retirement as he started his own company under his name and owns fifty percent of the stake while the other fifty percent is owned by his trusted friend Anthony Bell who is a senior accountant.
