Michael Holding Feels Virat Kohli Is Still Long Way From Breaking Sachin's Records 1

West Indies is full of praise for Indian captain Virat Kohli but believes he still has a long way to go before breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

The 28-year old has managed to reach his 30th ODI hundred against Sri Lanka in the final ODI on Sunday. He had then become the second most century scorer in ODIs equalling Ricky Ponting’s record and is only next to Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar has 49 ODI centuries to his name and over 18000 ODI runs which mean Virat Kohli still needs to score nearly 10000 runs and 19 more ODI hundreds to stand a chance to break the little master’s all time records.

“There is a long, long way to go (before he gets close to Tendulkar’s record), but he is certainly a great batsman,” said Holding.

Asked if Kohli is a better batsman compared to Tendulkar or vice-versa, the Jamaican added:

“Well, I don’t like comparisons,” he added.

Holding has also insisted that only time will tell if current Indian team are going to be successful overseas as well. Virat Kohli led Indian side have dominated test circuit over the past two years, but they have tough overseas tours in South Africa and England coming up next year.

“I don’t know. They have to do it to prove it. The proof of the cake is in the eating. So we will just have to wait and see what they do (outside the sub-continent). You can’t predict these things,” Holding said.

Virat Kohli has also managed to equal the Tendulkar’s record of highest rating points ever achieved by an Indian after becoming the No.1 batsman in ODIs. He had raked up an impressive 330 runs in the recently concluded Sri Lanka ODI series. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is also the top batsman in T20I format, making him one of the greats of all time already.
