Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has brutally trolled Virat Kohli after the latter failed to do a trick with the bat that was recently done by Joe Root.
Virat Kohli was in action on Thursday as Team India locked horns against Leicestershire in the ongoing 4-day warm-up fixture. The former India skipper had to come out to bat quite early as India’s top-order failed to do well.
Kohli came out to bat at number four after both the openers – Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma – departed cheaply. Gill was out for 21 while skipper Rohit returned to the pavilion after scoring 25 off 47 balls.

And just like Gill and Rohit, Kohli too could not score big. Just like the openers, he too got the start but failed to capitalise on it. Kohli returned to the pavilion after a controversial lbw decision from the umpire cut short his stay at the crease. Prior to his departure, the batting superstar scored 33 off 69 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and a six.
Michael Vaughan trolls Virat Kohli:
During his short stay at the crease, Virat Kohli tried his hands at the recent bat trick performed by Root. During the fourth innings of England’s first Test against New Zealand, Root had left the cricket world in disbelief with his physics defying trick.
Standing at the non-striker’s end, Root had his bat almost hovered as it stood perfectly upright with absolutely no support from him. The video of the incident went viral on social media in no time.
Kohli tried to do a similar trick while standing at the non-striker’s end against Leicestershire but failed to get the desired result. The bat lost its balance as soon as Kohli took his hand off. And the video of this incident went viral too as fans came up with different kinds of reactions.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also decided to react to the incident and he used the opportunity to troll Kohli. Vaughan indirectly said that Kohli is no more in the same league as Root, tweeting:
“Virat not in the same Bat balancing league as Joe”

Root has indeed performed better with the bat than Kohli in the last couple of years or so. While Kohli has not hit a single century in international cricket since 2019, Root has hit 10 Test centuries since January last year.
Talking about the warm-up fixture, India ended day one on 246 for 8. At one stage, it looked like the tourists would not even touch the 150-run mark after they were reduced to 81 for 5. However, a fighting fifty from wicketkeeper-batsman Srikar Bharat helped India recover.
At stumps, Bharat was unbeaten on 70 and Mohammed Shami was giving him company on 18. The ongoing game is India’s only warm-up clash before they lock horns against England in the rescheduled Test. The Test is scheduled to be played from July 1 in Birmingham. After the Test, both the teams will play three T20Is and as many One-Day Internationals.
