Michael Vaughan, former England captain explains the reasons behind Glenn Maxwell’s success for RCB in the ongoing season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s new recruit Glenn Maxwell smashed 78 runs in 49 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2021 match on Sunday. The right-handed batsman came to bat after RCB lost quick wickets early on in the match.
Michael Vaughan: RCB Is The Right Franchise For Glenn Maxwell
But Glenn Maxwell started counter-attacking KKR bowlers and smashed boundaries all over the park to help his team build a mammoth total. His innings set up the platform to post a huge total against KKR.
This was Glenn Maxwell’s second consecutive fifty for RCB in the season. The right-handed batsman had faced a lot of criticism last season after scoring just 108 runs in 13 games for previous franchise Punjab Kings(formerly KXIP).
But he appears to be in roaring form for RCB in IPL 2021, and former England captain Michael Vaughan explained the reasons behind his success for RCB.
“Glenn Maxwell is an incredible cricketer. He has never really flown in the IPL. Like we said about Moeen Ali, Chennai appears to be the spiritual fit for him and the right kind of franchise for Moeen Ali. I really feel, RCB is the right franchise for Glenn Maxwell,” Michael Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.
“Here, he is under the radar, because you have got Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, he is like at the third position, whereas in other teams, he is the one from who usually expectations are high,”Michael Vaughan added.
“But now he can sneak under the radar and probably he is not getting as much attention as he gets at other teams. Because there is Virat there, and there is AB de Villiers there. I think it’s a been smart move. Maxwell is a great signing this year for RCB,” Michael Vaughan signed off.
Glenn Maxwell bagged the Orange Cap briefly for being the highest run-scorer in the ongoing IPL 2021. He has amassed 176 runs this season in 3 matches. But later Delhi opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 92 against Punjab Kings to amass 186 runs in 3 matches thereby bagging the Orange Cap.
Glenn Maxwell, who already has scores of 39 and 59 in the tournament this season, missed his maiden IPL hundred by just 22 runs. But he came up with a display of high-quality big-hitting, slamming 3 sixes and 9 boundaries for a 49-ball 79 that came under pressure. Glenn Maxwell’s highest score before this hundred was 95 which he scored for his Punjab Kings against the Chennai Super Kings.
Glenn Maxwell And AB De Villiers Help RCB Defeat KKR By 38 Runs
Royal Challengers Bangalore ended their Chennai leg of IPL 2021 with a hat-trick of wins, beating Kolkata Knight Riders on the back of explosive half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. Glenn Maxwell made a 49-ball 78, his second fifty of the season, while AB de Villiers clubbed an unbeaten 34-ball 76.
Between them, they hit 18 fours and six sixes to take the Royal Challengers to 204 for 4 after Virat Kohli chose to bat in the afternoon game, and that total proved 38 runs too much for the Knight Riders. The win for RCB kept them at the top of the points table while the Kolkata Knight Riders ended their Chepauk run with two defeats in three games.
MOM AB de Villiers brought up his fifty off just 27 deliveries and powered RCB to a commanding total of 204/4. KKR, who remained unchanged from their previous defeat fell 38 runs short.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 204 for 4 (Maxwell 78, de Villiers 76*, Chakravarthy 2-39) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 166 for 8 (Russell 31, Jamieson 3-41, Harshal 2-17, Chahal 2-34) by 38 runs
