Michael Vaughan Praised Pat Cummins For Delivering Empathy With Clarity On Justin Langer Issue
Justin Langer’s contract as Australia’s head coach was set to expire in June but after a lengthy meeting with Cricket Australia, he decided to resign from his role with immediate effect. Cricket Australia offered him a short-term extension which he denied so both parties decided to part ways.
“Pat Cummins inside 4 months as a Captain has shown exactly how to do it … Todays press conference was a masterclass in delivering empathy with clarity to why things have happened … he just knows how to do it,” tweeted Michael Vaughan.

Cricket Australia on Saturday accepted men’s team head coach Justin Langer’s resignation.
“Justin was offered a short-term extension to his current contract, which sadly he has opted not to accept,” stated an official Cricket Australia release.
Australia is set to travel to Pakistan in March-April for a series of 3 Tests, 3 ODIs, and one T20I. Andrew McDonald has been appointed an interim head coach for the tour.
Pat Cummins: Justin Langer Tweaked His Coaching Style In Last 6 Months, Did A Good Job But Australia Needs
Pat Cummins made his first public comments on Wednesday since the departure of former national team coach Justin Langer, in which he insisted that Australia needed a more collaborative, “new style” of coaching.
Lavishing praises on Justin Langer, Pat Cummins said he is indebted to the West Australian for playing a part in Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup win and the 2021-22 Ashes triumph. While the Test skipper called Justin Langer “the perfect man for the times”, he reckons the team now needs a change.
“I think he tweaked and changed quite a bit. He deserves a lot of credit for that. I think the question then became do we think that it’s sustainable. We thought it is the right time to make a change. I think some of these skill sets are perhaps a little bit different to perhaps his traditional coaching style,” Cummins had told reporters on Wednesday.

“I think he tweaked his coaching style in the last six months and did a really good job, but we think now is the right time for a different direction. It’s a matter of opinion but we think it’s the right one. I don’t think he should be surprised though, it’s been two years of evaluation. I don’t think there’s any big surprise,” he added.
Justin Langer was appointed as the men’s team coach in 2018 after the Sandpaper Gate which saw David Warner and Steve Smith serving out one-year bans. Under Justin Langer, Australia managed to win the T20I World Cup 2021 and then the Ashes 2021/22 during his tenure as coach.
