Michael Vaughan Slams ICC After Jason Holder Receives Official Reprimand 1

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has slammed International Cricket Council after the governing body of the game reprimanded West Indies skipper Jason Holder in addition to handing him one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct on day four of the ongoing Test against England at Headingley.

According to a release from the ICC, the West Indies fast-bowler was sanctioned for “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match”. Holder was sanctioned for the incident that took place during the 70th over of England’s second innings when a frustrated Holder yelled out some expletives after Dawid Malan was dropped his bowling. Holder’s comments were heard by on-field officials and the ICC did not hesitate in reprimanding the bowler.

However, it has not gone down too well with Vaughan who took to Twitter to question ICC’s decision.

“Jason Holder has been given a demerit point for swearing after Powell dropped a catch !!!!!!!!!! What is this game coming too @ICC !!?????”

It should be remembered that Vaughan along with former South Africa captain Graeme Smith had also lashed out at the ICC after pacer Kagiso Rabada was handed a one-match suspension for giving England all-rounder Ben Stokes a controversial send-off during the Lord’s Test in July. Rabada had yelled f*** o** which was picked up by the stump mics and consequently the governing body had banned the South Africa star for one game.

“It’s ridiculous. No-one wrote about it, no-one spoke about it. It was only because it was on the stump mic that it’s become a thing,” Smith had told ESPNcricinfo. “It could have been handled better. I don’t think it was aimed at Ben Stokes. I just think it was out of frustration. If it wasn’t picked up by the stump mics he wouldn’t have been done.

Vaughan, on the other hand, had criticised ICC on Twitter.
