The Story
England will be going into the third test at The Oval with a couple of changes in the XI, it has been confirmed. The Joe Root led side attracted some sharp criticism from ex-cricketers and critics who dished some harsh verdict after the hosts suffered a 340 runs humiliation at Trent Bridge.
Michael Vaughan, Geoffrey Boycott, Nasser Hussain went ballistic while assessing the unexpected defeat which was inflicted by England after a poor batting performance in the fourth innings. Vaughan termed the batting show as “disrespectful to Test cricket,” Boycott blamed the lack of application while Hussain felt it was appalling to see the batters perform in such reckless fashion.
Later, skipper Joe Root and vice-captain Ben Stokes gave their opinions regarding the criticism. No further exchange of words is expected but the Englishmen are clearly under pressure ahead of the upcoming game which also happens to be the 100th Test at the venue.
Two spinners confirmed, Mark Wood out
Two debutants – Tom Westley and fast bowler Toby Roland – Jones – are confirmed to feature in starting XI. –
While the news about Westley replacing the injured Gary Ballance at No. 3 was already out, fast bowler Toby making his way into the team is the latest and the most stunning development ahead of the game. His inclusion could be made possible after the likeliness of Mark Wood getting deemed unfit with a heel injury was understood to be very high.
There were doubts about his fitness. Chances appeared bright after he participated in the net session but eventually fitness reports have suggested that he is yet to become fully fit. Thus, making way for the Middlesex man to make his five-day debut.
