Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey has named the senior duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the players who will lead the charge for the Indian team in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final against Australia.
India will clash with Australia in the final of the ICC World Test Championship which will be played at the Oval in London from June 7-11 with the 12th as the reserve day for the encounter. While Australia has made it into their maiden WTC final, this will be the second time India plays in the summit clash.
India had played in the last WTC final in 2021 as well against New Zealand in Southampton as well but lost the game to Kane Williamson and his side.
Keeping this in mind, former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey has picked veteran India cricketers Rohit Sharma, the captain and Virat Kohli as the men who will lead the charge against Australia in the summit clash.
“It’s hard to see past Virat Kohli. He (Kohli) is obviously coming back into some great form again in all forms of the game really, so both he and Rohit Sharma with the bat are going to be important for India,” Hussey said in an interview with ICC Review.

Talking further about the bowling attacks of the two sides, Hussey pointed out while India defeated Australia by 2-1 in India, things will be different when the two sides clash in England. Hussey thinks India’s quicks can make a difference at The Oval, but knows Australia’s plethora of quality pacers – that includes skipper Pat Cummins and experienced left-armer Mitchell Starc – will prove difficult to handle.
“It is going to be played in England, so English conditions will be different to the recent series in India, so I think the fast bowlers are going to be important. Pat Cummins (is a key for Australia) and Josh Hazlewood might be fit again which would be nice for Australia.
But India have got so many great bowlers as well. You’ve got (Mohammed) Siraj and (Mohammed) Shami and obviously the spinners with (Ravindra) Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin as well. It’s a world-class attack and the Aussies are going to have to be at their best to beat them,” Hussey said.
When asked which team he believes would win and hoist the prized World Test Championship mace, Hussey stated diplomatically that he was expecting for a good equal match between the two excellent sides.
