Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq  on Monday  said that Mohammad Amer still has the chance to be the greatest bowler of the world. Amer has served five years of sentence after indicted in a spot-fixing incident in 2010 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Amer, 24, selected in the Pakistan Test team for the England tour for the first time after his return his in international cricket in January 2016.

In 2010 Amer was caught  bowling no balls  while a tabloid conducted  sting operation where Amer agreed to ball no ball while playing a Test match against the England at the Lord’s

Amer was then only 17. His then captain Salman Butt and Pakistan’s pace spearhead Mohammad Asif  was also booked. Later it was learned that Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have urged Amer to get indulge in the spot-fixing and Amer agreed to his seniors’ words.

Butt, Asif, and Amer were jailed for five years along with the bookie Mazhar Majeed.  The left arm pacer Amer has spent three months in an English young offenders institute. He has only played limited over matches for Pakistan after returning to cricket serving the ban. But, his age still supports his cause to be a great bowler. He will play his first Test against at the Lord’s on July 14.

Captain Misbah believes  Amer didn’t lose his deadly bowling skills.

“The way he has been bowling, he is there,” said Misbah at Hampshire’s Rose Bowl ground near Southampton, where Pakistan were training Monday.

“You look at his bowling speed, his swing, his control, they’re all there. He can still be the best bowler in the world,” he added ahead of Pakistan’s opening three-day tour match against Somerset at Taunton starting on Sunday.

“Whatever form of the game he has played since his comeback, he has done well,” said key batsman Misbah of Amir, who in his 14 Tests before his ban took 51 wickets at an average of under 30 apiece.

“He knows he is under pressure but he is handling it well,” the Pakistan captain insisted.

“This is a good chance for him to come here, the place where he had those problems and show the world he is there to perform and deliver for the team.

“It is a chance to win back all his fans. It’s a great opportunity and he is working hard.”

There is a speculation that the English fans many give Amer a hostile welcome when he will come to play the Lord’s. Misbah said, “Anything might happen but Amir’s main focus should be on his game.

“It might happen –- you can always hear voices.

“The best way is to concentrate on your skills and your duties and Amir has to focus on his game and what he has to do. He is doing well.”
