Former Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson could well come out of retirement when Australia take on Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series at home. With the ICC making an absolute blunder in the scheduling of games, Australia will now have to ensure that they have two teams ready for two international assignments. As the series between Australia and Sri Lanka ends on February 22, the Kangaroos are bound to take on India from February 23. Such a disastrous mismanagement by the ICC has caused complete chaos.

According to Australia’s spin head Nathan Lyon, Johnson could well be back to represent Australia. The left-arm vicious pacer has looked in fine form in the ongoing Big Bash League, as he has aggregated decent returns for Perth Scorchers. If Johnson indeed returns to international cricket, he wouldn’t be the first one to do so, as chinaman bowler Brad Hogg did the similar thing in the past.

“I know Mitch probably won’t want to do it,” said Lyon about Johnson coming back.  “I’m sure if he got asked to come out of retirement he might consider it. He’s a world-class superstar. He’s one of my very good mates and it’s good to see him back playing.”

Speaking about the upcoming Sydney derby clash, where the Sixers take on Thunder, Lyon said, “They’ve been great for Australian cricket, they’re Australian cricket legends so every chance the Australian public can watch those boys play the better.

“And on the other hand, the younger guys, if they can see and learn off the older guys who have played the game so well for Australia, then Cricket Australia is heading in the right direction I believe,” he concluded.
