All-rounder Mitchell Marsh to undergo ankle surgery
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the County stint in the United Kingdom (UK). He is in serious doubt for Australia’s nest assignment owing to an ankle injury. He has been preparing to join Surrey- the London-based club. However, they confirmed the fact he will undergo an ankle injury, next week.
Marsh recently establishes himself in the Australian middle-order after back-to-back centuries in the previous Ashes series but has been battling severe pain and stiffness in the joint.
As per reports from a Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson Marsh, in all likelihood, is targeting a return in the squad by the start of the Australian summer.
Marsh races with time to be fit for the next away series against Pakistan. The series is expected to be held in September or October.
In a statement released by Surrey, they didn’t discount the chances of Marsh playing for the country later in the northern summer.
“I’m extremely disappointed to be missing the start of the season. I was looking forward to heading over and joining the Surrey family,” said Marsh.
Meanwhile, Surrey’s Director of Cricket, Alec Stewart wants an overseas replacement for Mitchell Marsh as per reports in the Surrey’s statement.
“I’ll be doing everything I can to get myself fully fit and hopefully join the side later in the season,” Marsh maintained.
The club has made links with Indian skipper Virat Kohli who will be leading India in the five-match Test tour of England, later this year.
Aussie former skipper Steve Smith decided not to appeal against Cricket Australia’s 12 months suspension from international cricket. Hence he could also be a possible option.
CA barred Smith from playing any form of cricket in Australia including First-class. However, the rule doesn’t imply if he decides to play first-class cricket in any other nation.
