As the New Zealand side looks to take on India against the backdrop of the October heat, the inclusion of one individual will be crucial for the Kiwis.

Pacer Mitchell McClenaghan might have left his aspirations of becoming a Test bowler, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving it his absolute best for the Blackcaps in limited-overs. With a vast experience of playing T20 cricket across the globe, McClenaghan can boast of possessing some valuable skills. He has been a genuine wicket-taker for his side, and be it for New Zealand or the Mumbai Indians; the towering left-arm pacer has emerged as a game changer now and then.

Recently, he signed up with Syndey Thunder for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League and was quite optimistic to ply his venture in another T20 based tournament. However, McClenaghan was fully aware of his national duties and representing New Zealand.

“That’s out of my hands, but I’m going to play hard cricket, that’s what I know how to do,” McClenaghan said.“I’m going to go out there and prove my worth to people, and hopefully, they come knocking when I keep taking a whole bunch of poles, and they’re a little bit stuck potentially.”

“New Zealand cricket’s in a great position at the minute. We’ve got a whole bunch of bowlers coming through, a lot I’ve worked with over some time with some skills. That’s exciting as well.”If the opportunity comes I wouldn’t mind taking my spot back,” he added.

Elaborating about his decision of not playing First-Class cricket, he said,

“Anyone who is playing cricket for their country holds onto aspirations of playing Test cricket.” It just got to a point where there was probably going to be limited opportunity first and foremost to prove my case to play Test cricket with the timing of all our one-day cricket; it clashed with all our first-class stuff. I got to a realisation that I probably wasn’t going to have the time to prove myself and force my way into that side.”
