Yesterday, on July 20, it was a perfect platform for the Indian team to take revenge from Australia and with a win in the semi-final, India did not just qualify for the finals but also took a revenge from Australia. With this win, India qualified for the finals of the tournament and Mithali Raj registered her name in the record books as she became first ever captain to achieve this record.
She is the first ever Indian captain to lead India into the finals of two World Cups (50 overs), a record which no other Indian captain holds. Even MS Dhoni, the most successful captain India ever had, also did not own this record. He led India in two World Cups. In 2011, the joint-host team went onto win the Trophy whereas, in 2015, a loss against Australia in semi-final ended team India’s hopes of retaining the cup. Dhoni though had led India into the final of T20 World Cup twice. In 2007, India won the tournament whereas, in 2014, they lost a low scoring final against Sri Lanka.
