Ahead of the all-important World Cup final against England at Lord’s on Sunday (July 23), India has had a huge injury scare when in-form batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur was seen clutching her shoulder in pain during the net session on Saturday (July 22) and the physio was spotted applying ice on it. In fact, the right-handed batswoman could not even bat during the practise session.

Harmanpreet was the chief-architect of India’s stunning win over defending champions Australia in the semifinal. The 28-year old had slammed a majestic 171 runs off just 115 balls with the help of 20 fours and 7 sixes to propel India to a massive 281 for 4 in the allotted 42 overs in a rain-affected match. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 245. Prior to that semifinal clash, Harmanpreet had scored 60 in the do-or-die clash against New Zealand and her injury was definitely going to be a big blow.
But fortunately, the Punjab star is looking set to play against England as India captain Mithali Raj has said her teammate is likely to play the title-decider. The captain also said that the icing was just a precautionary measure.
Mithali Raj says she believes Kaur will be fit to play tomorrow and the icing is precautionary to deal with niggles. #WWC17

India, meanwhile, will be hoping to be second-time lucky. The Women in Blue had lost a World Cup final earlier in 2005 when they were thrashed by 98 runs by Australia in their only final appearance prior to the upcoming one. After two convincing wins over New Zealand and defending champions Australia, Mithali Raj & Co. are looking like the team to beat and given that they have already defeated England once in this tournament, they will enter the final with full confidence.
