Mithali Raj Ready For Upcoming Home T20I Series Against South Africa Women
Indian women’s ODI captain Mithali Raj is available for the upcoming home T20I series against South Africa women. However, she hasn’t thought for the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 yet.
The 36-year-old Mithali Raj is one of the most experienced T20I cricketers for India women’s, and she is the leading T20I run-scorer for this team. After playing 89 T20Is, Raj has scored 2,364 runs with an average of 37.52. In her 84 T20I innings, she has registered 17 times 50+ scores, including her best knock 97*.

After the huge controversies at the end of the ICC Women’s World T20 2018, Raj’s T20I career was in doubtful. According to the earlier media reports, she could announce at least the T20I retirement after the home T20I series against England women in last March. However, she is now ready to continue her T20I career as she is available for the forthcoming home T20I series against South Africa women.
In the upcoming India tour, South Africa women’s will play a five-match T20I series against India women. This series will run between 24th September and 4th October 2019.
Though Mithali Raj is available for the upcoming home T20I series, she hasn’t thought about the next T20 World Cup that will begin in six months. Raj wants to plan series by series.
Raj told PTI, “I am definitely available for the T20 series next month but, at the moment, haven’t really thought about the T20 World Cup. I usually take it series by series.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 will start on 21st February 2020, and it will run till 8th March 2020. Australia will host this tournament.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to know Mithali Raj’s T20I future as the T20 WC 2020 isn’t much away. A BCCI official also revealed that Raj isn’t an automatic choice in the playing XI for this format.
A BCCI official said, “Mithali has been a great of the game but she needs to decide soon on her T20 career. The T20 World Cup is six months away and the selectors need to try out a few players. And for that, they also need to know what Mithali’s plans are. She is also not an automatic pick in the eleven.”

On the other hand, the women’s ODI captain Mithali Raj believes that the T20I side needs to improve a lot. She feels that the T20 leagues are helping the Indian women’s to mature faster with more experiences.
Raj claimed, “As a team, we still have a lot to catch up on the T20 format but we do have youngsters coming in and with the exposure of T20 leagues around the world they will get more experience and mature faster.”
Mithali Raj believes that Indian women’s can be enough stronger with more smart planning and shot selection. She also praised the improvement in fitness.
Raj said, “Genetically we can’t be like other teams but we can be more smart in our planning and shot selection. We worked very hard on our fitness in the recent camp in Bangalore and you can see the girls are much fitter on the ground and that reflects in their drills.”
After completing the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, Indian women will play few more matches before T20 WC. Ahead of the T20 WC 2020, India women will travel in West Indies, and then they will play a T20I tri-series in Australia.
