The English all-rounder Moeen Ali had an excellent start of the tour of Sri Lanka as he scored his 1st One-day International (ODI) century in the very first ODI of the seven match series that started on Wednesday.
His 72-ball Hundred at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo was the 3rd fastest Hundred for any English Batsman in ODIs. This is a significant achievement for a cricketer, who is just playing his sixth ODI game.
The record for the fastest century for England is held by Jos Buttler who had scored a 61-ball hundred surprisingly against the Sri Lankan’s earlier this year. He had taken just 61 balls to reach his landmark and the match was played at Lord’s.
Second in the list of Fastest hundreds is Kevin Pietersen who scored a 69-ball hundred against South Africa at East London in 2005, which was the fastest for England till 2014. In 2013, middle order batsman Ravi Bopara also scored a 74-ball century against Ireland at Dublin.
