Mohammad Azharuddin Advices Cheteshwar Pujara To Play County Cricket
Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has advised Cheteshwar Pujara to play county cricket, as the number three Test batsman is not a part of any IPL team for the upcoming season.
“I would like those who are not playing IPL, especially Pujara, to go and play county cricket in England. He would encounter different types of wickets especially in April and May which will give good experience and exposure. It will help him when he tours England or other places where the ball moves around and also bounces,” Azhar said.
Pujara has had a county stint in past when he signed for Yorkshire in the year 2015 after Younis Khan pulled out of the county tournament. Earlier, during the series against England, Indian skipper Virat Kohli also indicated that he might play county cricket, to assimilate to the conditions there, which have everything for the fast bowlers.

Further, Azhar added players who aren’t fit for IPL should skip the T20 league. His comments came in the wake after a number of Indian players were getting injured before the IPL.
The players have somehow failed to sustain workload and have now found themselves under the burden and with Champions Trophy just two months away, no player should risk his availability by playing in the lucrative league.
“If they are not fit then there’s no need for them to play instead of playing and suddenly going to play for the country and finding themselves not fit. Everyone should know their fitness levels,” former skipper said.
However, Azhar seemed to be disappointed by the Presidential result of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) where the former Member of Parliament G Vivekanand emerged as the winner by defeating his closest rival Vidyuth Jaisimha in the end.
“It’s very disappointing, although I totally respect the decision of the court. But my personal feeling is that when the election was held, no (Justice) Lodha (panel) recommendations were followed. Naturally, if he is the only person to run for the election, then he will obviously win. You didn’t allow many people to run for the election. According to the Lodha report, an election commissioner has to conduct the election. If he is not available in Hyderabad, he should be sought from another state. They didn’t do that. They appointed a returning officer and held the election.
“But anyway, the court has given its verdict. I totally respect that but we have to decide the future course of action.”
Azharrudin was himself one of the aspirants to become the President of the association but his application was rejected and he was deemed ineligible to contest elections.
