Mohammad Azharuddin’s Nomination For HCA President’s Post Rejected

Mr K. Rajeev Reddy, the returning officer, has rejected the nomination of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin for the post of President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). As per a report in The Hindu, his nomination has been rejected after the former Member of Parliament failed to give a satisfactory explanation whether the BCCI ban on him over the match-fixing saga had been lifted. In addition to that, he has also not been able to prove whether he is a voter or not.
“The panel recommendations have clearly suggested that former international cricketers are eligible to contest and that Azhar even submitted the 2012 High Court judgement copy regarding the setting aside of the BCCI ban. But the decision of the Returning Officer seems to be motivated and not fair,” one of the official linked to Azhar said.
Arshad Ayub, former President of Hyderabad Cricket Association, also said Azhar does not fulfil the criteria to become the President of the board.
“Yes, Azhar has filed his nomination before the returning officer but the HCA hasn’t received any confirmation from the BCCI, saying that his life ban is lifted. I think he needs the BCCI clearance for his nomination to be accepted. Also, a by-law of the HCA constitution says that to contest for the post of president, one has to serve at least one term as an executive council member and another term as an office-bearer. Azhar doesn’t fulfil that as well,” said the former President of the Board.
This rules out Azhar from the race of the President with just two aspirants viz. Vidyuth Jaisimha and Dr. G. Vivekanand left in the race.
However, if the Hyderabad Cricket Association is found not following the Lodha recommendations whilst conducting elections, then the whole exercise will be declared null and void.
It has also come to notice that T. Seshnarayan is the only candidate who aspires to become the Secretary of the board.
