Mohammad Hafeez Questions Appointment Process For Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman

Mohammad Hafeez, the former Pakistan captain has raised questions over the appointment process of Pakistan Cricket Board chief besides the decision to reduce teams in domestic cricket.

Mohammad Hafeez also criticized the abolishment of the departmental and bank teams in domestic cricket saying it had left many domestic cricketers jobless and without any future. The PCB two years back abolished the role of departmental and bank teams on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan who himself played a lot of domestic cricket in his days for the national airlines and other departments.

Mohammad Hafeez : The Procedure For Selection Of PCB Chairman Isn’t Right

Mohammad Hafeez, who recently announced his retirement from all international cricket, also questioned the selection process of PCB chairman. He said it was time that elections were held properly to elect the Chairman of the board instead of him basically being a selected nominee of the patron in chief, the Prime Minister. He suggested that the chairman of the cricket board should be elected through elections

“The present process is not correct because presently the chairman PCB was elected under a selection system and the procedure for selection of PCB chairman is not right. The chairman PCB comes on political grounds and the chairman who comes politically does not understand cricket at all,” he said.

He suggested that the chairman of the cricket board should be elected through elections. Former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja is the current PCB chief. Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja is currently serving as the chairman of PCB after he was appointed on September 13, 2021.

Raja was nominated by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, as a patron of PCB, to manage the functioning of the Pakistan board. Raja was unanimously elected as the chairman in a meeting in Lahore. PCB two years back abolished the role of departmental and bank teams on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan who himself played a lot of domestic cricket in his days for the national airlines and other departments.

Mohammad Hafeez called out for serious elections to take place in the PCB to elect the chairman of the board. Mohammad Hafeez had a difference of opinion with Ramiz Raja in the past after the latter had commented on the player’s international retirement.

The incident happened when Mohammad Hafeez was selected in Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand tour of 2020-21. Ramiz Raja expressed his dissent and wanted PCB to give youngsters more opportunities. In fact, Ramiz Raja had also asked Mohammad Hafeez to take international retirement gracefully to make way for new players.

In his response to Ramiz Raja, Mohammad Hafeez said that his 12-year-old son has a great cricketing sense than the former Pakistan skipper. Ramiz Raja also slammed Mohammad Hafeez for preferring to play in the T10 league instead of playing for the national team in February last year. The 41-year-old Pakistan all-rounder announced his retirement from international cricket earlier in this month.
