The tall and lanky Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has been ruled out of the remainder of the England tour due to injury. Irfan was just able to bowl just 5 overs in the game before he returned back to the dressing room for the final time. Coaching Mickey Arthur was annoyed over Irfan’s fitness. Pakistan team lost the match by 4 wickets as England chased own 248 in 48 overs. Irfan was effective with the ball as he scalped 2 wickets in 5 overs giving away 26 runs.
It was a hard day for Irfan as despite having good numbers, he received 2 official warnings from the umpires and walked off the field thrice due to injury.
This is a big setback for Pakistan as Irfan was himself called as a replacement for Mohammed Hafeez who was ruled out of the series after the first ODI. The selectors have chosen the fast bowler Hasan Ali as a replacement for Irfan.
PCB issued a statement in which they gave details about the matter “Irfan initially suffered cramps in his hamstring in that match [at Headingley] and came off to receive treatment. He returned to play and later on complained about cramps in his left and right calf that prevented him bowling further in the match. He will return to Pakistan and will work on his fitness in the National Cricket Academy [in Lahore].”
Pakistan is facing a high risk of getting whitewashed as England team is leading the five matches ODI series by a margin of 5-0.
