Mohammad Kaif to captain in the upcoming 2016/17 Ranji season 1

In the upcoming Ranji season for 2016/17, former Indian player Mohammad Kaif will captain Chhattisgarh side.  The Chhattisgarh side will play the Ranji Trophy tournament for the first time ever.“Glad to be appointed Chhatisgarh’s first captain. Mohammad Kaif was one of the best fielders of Indian cricket and last represented the Indian colors 10 years ago. Since then he has been playing domestic cricket. In the last season, he played Andhra Pradesh. In his international cricketing career, he played 13 test matches, 125 One day international matches.

Mohammad Kaif, apart from domestic cricket he is part of a commentating team in Hindi. In Test matches, he has scored 624 runs with the best score of 148 and in the shorter format of the game, he scored 2753 runs. In ODI’s he scored only 2 centuries and 17 half centuries.

Mohammad Kaif has played 177 first class matches and scored 9974 runs. He made his first-class debut in 1997/98 and is playing first class cricket since. Also, he has played 263 List A matches and 70 T20 domestic matches.

Mohammad Kaif did not have a great tournament with the bat last year who scored 330 runs in 13 matches. Andhra Pradesh finished last season and have been relegated to Group C this season.

Mohammad Kaif played a key role in helping Uttar Pradesh win their first title in 2005/06 season beating Bengal.

Chhattisgarh was promoted and given a chance to take part in the 83rd edition of Ranji Trophy. In Group C, they will be the tenth team.
