Mohammad Kaif Not Impressed With Lacklustre Performance by Sri Lanka

It has been a thoroughly professional performance by Team India in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka and they are all set to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series at Colombo. From Day 1 itself, the visitors have dominated the Lankans in all 3 departments of the game. Batting first India posted a mammoth 622 on the board in the 1st innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane smashed centuries which propelled the visitors to a mammoth total. There were three other half-centurions: Ravichandran Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja, in particular, took on the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers and belted them for 3 sixes and four fours. Later Mohammad Shami smashed 3 sixes in his brief stay which enabled India to get past the 600 mark.

None of the Sri Lankan bowlers was effective as they failed to make use of the conditions on offer. Despite the pitch assisting the spinners, they failed to put pressure on them as the Indians literally batted them out of the match with such a huge total. The hosts needed to bat out of their skin to harbour any hopes of saving the Test match but that wasn’t to be as the Indian bowlers ran through the Sri Lanka top order.

Ravichandran Ashwin roared back to form with yet another five wicket haul. He was brilliant yesterday afternoon and bagged a couple of wickets during the fag end of the day. He came back today and added three more to his kitty which helped the visitors skittle out the hosts for a paltry 182 in their 1st essay.

They were made to follow on and lost Upul Tharanga very early before Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis played some counter attacking cricket to post a 100 runs partnership. Former Indian batsman and an acrobatic fielder Mohammad Kaif expressed his disappointment with the way Sri Lanka has played in the series so far. He was not pleased to see sub standard cricket being played by the Lankans. They haven’t been able to compete with India and unless something dramatic happens, India will undoubtedly win the series by a 3-0 margin.

Taking to his twitter handle Kaif wrote, “International match hai ya mazaak. No contest at all.” (International cricket of fun going on? No Contest at all). Undoubtedly there hasn’t been any contest between the two teams and the hosts will definitely look to keep the Indians at bay for some length of time.
