Mohammad Saifuddin’s Injury Scare – a Test for Bangladesh Think Tank

Bangladesh management has been facing heat owing to the injuries. The latest to join the injury list is bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin.

The World Cup-bound 22-year-old Saifuddin has picked a back injury. Consequently, it has somewhat sent a warning to the Bangladesh team management.

Meanwhile, the 2019 World Cup will commence from May 30 in London when hosts England will take on South Africa.

Thus, the forced change saw Saifuddin making way for Abu Jayed, who is set to make his international debut on May 13.

The management has decided to rest Saifuddin in the ongoing tri-nation series.

According to the chief selector for Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Minhajul Abedin, Saifuddin is suffering from pain. He added they don’t want to take any chance as the World Cup is around the corner.

“Saifuddin is having some kind of a pain in the back. So, we don’t want to take any risk with him and so we are considering him to make his debut against West Indies,” Abedin told Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, as the World Cup is approaching, Saifuddin has spent time with team physio ahead of their game against the Caribbean team.

On the other side, another medium pacer Abu Jayed has trained in nets. Then, he spent quality time with the Tigers’ bowling coach Courtney Walsh.

On the other side, BCB is mulling to introduce fast bowler Taskin Ahmed into the 15-man squad as he missed out in the provisional squad early on due to an injury.

However, BCCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon reiterated that it would be an injustice if Jayed won’t get enough opportunities to prove his credentials.

“It would be unfair to change Jayed without giving enough opportunities,” he said a couple of days ago, Papon.

Anyway, with little over 10 days available on finalising their squad, BCB would be seeking answers at the earliest.

Earlier, ICC has set the deadline of May 23 for the changes in the squad.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will kick-off their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 2. Before that, the Tigers led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will feature in the warm-up game against Pakistan and India on May 26 and 28 respectively.
