Team India pacer, Mohammed Shami has finally managed to pass the mandatory yo-yo test which ruled him out of the Test against Afghanistan.
Shami failed to clear the fitness Test ahead of Afghanistan’s Test and subsequently lost his place in the side. However, after clearing the test now, Shami will be in line for a call-up to the Indian squad for the Test series against England.
He performed quite brilliantly in his last Test against South Africa. He bagged a brilliant five-wicket haul which helped India win the final Test by 63 runs.
Meanwhile, it was not only Shami who failed to clear the yo-yo test. The likes of Sanju Samson and Ambati Rayudu also failed to pass the test which ruled them out of the India A and national squad, respectively.
Shami clearing the fitness test will be encouraging signs for the pacer who has had quite a torrid time in his personal life.
Shami’s Instagram post
The pacer was quite delighted after clearing the test. He took to his Instagram handle and wrote,
“Flying to Delhi, Yo-Yo done.”
Shami is having a tumultuous time in his life at the moment. He was alleged by his wife Hasin Jahan of having affairs with several women. He was unable to focus on cricket especially after being levelled several bailable and unbailable charges.
She further alleged Shami to be a match fixer. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) withheld his contract. However, after a thorough investigation, Shami was cleared of any false doing.
It was an unfortunate situation for Shami who was on the peak of his prowess after the series against South Africa. He bagged a match-winning five-wicket haul to help India win a memorable encounter in Johannesburg.
Shami was quite ordinary with the ball in hand during the Indian Premier League. After being bought by the Delhi Daredevils, Shami managed to play only four matches and was far from impressive. He was smashed for six sixes by Andre Russell in one of the group matches.
