Mohammed Shami Eyes India Comeback By Playing In Vijay Hazare Trophy 1

India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami is eyeing a return to action by playing in the last two games of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-arm fast bowler has not played since injuring his knee during the third Test against England in November 2016.

However, he is close to regaining full fitness and is confident of playing in the last two matches of the domestic 50-over championship. The Bengal pacer had recently posted a video of his training session where he was seen bowling a couple of deliveries at the nets with a steady run-up.

“I am doing fine now and have started bowling in the nets,” Shami told reporters at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“I don’t know yet but if I’m fully fit and comfortable to play, then I may play last two matches (for Bengal in Vijay Hazare Trophy),” he added.

The 26-year old is likely to return to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in a few days for assessing his fitness. Meanwhile, a good show in the domestic matches might bring him in contention for a spot in the India squad for the last two Tests against Australia.

The team for the last two Tests will be announced after the second Test in Bengaluru from March 4-8 and given the way the team has backed its injured players, Shami is likely to make a comeback if fit.

Meanwhile, the pacer has backed India to bounce back strongly after the humiliating 333-run defeat in the series opener in Pune.

“Let’s look forward, there’s still a lot of cricket left in the series. Win and loss is part of the game. We may have a bad day. Let’s not blame anyone and try to focus on the remaining matches. I’m sure we would bounce back,” he said.
