ToggleNew Zealand bowlers were quick to send off India back to the pavilion early on the third day of the second and final Test in Christchurch. India were halted at 124 as they set up a target of 132 runs for the opposition. While the host took only 36 overs to chase the target and registered the victory with seven wickets in hand.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled 13 overs and picked three wickets while Umesh Yadav bowled 14 overs and picked only one wicket.
However, Mohammed Shami, who troubled New Zealanders in first innings, bowled only three overs. It was shocking to see him bowling only a couple of overs on Monday.
Would Mohammed Shami recover well in time?
The main reason for Shami not bowling much in the second innings was the blow he took on his right shoulder while batting.
When India had lost eight wickets, the pacer came to contribute with the bat. Though Tim Southee trapped him at mid-wicket and he was sent back early but before that, he was hit by Trent Boult’s short ball which struck his shoulder. And, he was also seen talking to Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri about the same before taking the field.
Shami was left with pain in his shoulder and was unable to bowl. He was seen signalling the skipper that he is struggling to bowl.
Mohammed Shami’s injury a worrying factor for India:

Thus, he was not bowling after lunch and Umesh and Bumrah, along with Ravindra Jadeja were only left in India’s bowling line up. Even Kohli also bowled an over.
Therefore, the BCCI released a statement over the same, updating about Shami’s injury.
“Mohammed Shami suffered a ball impact injury while batting. He is receiving treatment for the same and is currently off the field.”
However, it’s still not clear how serious Shami’s injury is, but it is surely a worrying factor for India as other pacers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar are still recovering from injury.
Pertinently, India will face South Africa at home in the three-match ODI series.
