My Mom Seemed Less Excited About My SCG Cameo, Says Mickey Edwards 1
Mickey Edwards of Australia was called in field as a replacement of David Warner during day five of the Sydney Test match between Australia and Pakistan.

It doesn’t happen every day that you are called from no-where to come and field in an International and your parents doesn’t get excited about. Well, something sort of that happened to Australia’s new cult hero Mickey Edwards, who was called onto the field as the replacement of Aussie vice-captain David Warner during the day five of Sydney Test.

Relatively new to on-screen and to many of those in the outfield, Edwards was welcomed by a huge cheer from the SCG crowd, and the noise would only go up when the lanky pacer got to field the ball during the meantime.

Speaking to 7News, Edwards said his mom wasn’t happy when he reached home admitting he didn’t inform her where he was the whole day and she was left worried for the day. As per his words, she shouted a bit on him. Well, that sounds a bit harsh.

“She was like ‘well where have you been’ because I forgot to tell her I was doing it!”

Laughing around while sharing his unorthodox cricketing experience, Edwards said the crowd was really loud and he did not have any idea about what to do next. He further said that Nathan Lyon was having a go at him by giving him the ball every now and then, resulting in a more energetic cheer from the crowd.

“Nathan Lyon thought it was pretty funny to throw me the ball as much as he could because the crowd kept cheering whenever I got it. They were asking for a wave and I had to ask Peter Handscomb like what do you do? Do you wave back? What’s the protocol?”

Talking about his look, which has stolen the headlines across the cricketing world, 22-year-old Edwards said he wasn’t too amused to see himself on the screen, rather asking, ‘Who is that big idiot with the long, stupid hair’?

However, Edwards couldn’t control himself for sharing what a dream moment it was for him, keeping the field in front of thousands and running alongside few big names in the game.

“I couldn’t believe it was me. I’ve never seen myself on TV. It was really cool. It sort of felt like a normal game but then I was like ‘there’s an actually big crowd here. I actually thought it was going to rain all day so I thought I wasn’t going to be doing anything.”

Edwards is expected to be a part of Sheffield Shield next year and then will have a chance to officially be a part of Australia’s national side.
