Former England spinner Monty Panesar recently revealed how he acted like he didn’t know Hindi and heard all of MS Dhoni’s antics from behind the stumps. The Indian origin England spinner recalled how Dhoni used to read the batsman’s mind and advice the bowler’s to bowl accordingly and get they used to get wickets following him.

MS Dhoni, who recently retired from international cricket helped many of his bowlers with the same tactics. He has been always lauded for his calm demeanour and letting off the pressure from his players. Dhoni has run the show always from behind the stumps with his brilliant mind which is a reason for India’s immense success under his captaincy.

Monty Panesar recalled MS Dhoni’s brilliance of running the show from behind the stumps

The left-arm spinner was all praises for his Indian counterpart, MS Dhoni, for his cunning tips to his bowlers through his analysis of the batsman which fetched them wickets. He also recalled an instance where he acted like he didn’t understand Hindi and continued to listen to Dhoni’s tactics to his bowlers from behind.

“I remember his tips to the bowlers, especially spinners from behind the stumps. Abhi thodi wide ball daalo. Abhi thoda seedha stumps pe rakho. Ye cross line khelne waala hai, seedha daalo. Ye deep mid-wicket pe chakka marega, thoda wide rakhna. (Bowl a little wide now. Now bowl straight on the stumps. He is going to play across the line, so bowl straight. He will try for a six over mid-wicket, so bowl a little wide),” Panesar said

MSD thought I didn’t understand, I acted as if I didn’t hear anything: Monty Panesar

The Indian origin England spinner said he knows speaking Hindi and Punjabi to a great extent. MS Dhoni was giving tactics to his bowlers in Hindi while Panesar was batting, thinking he doesn’t understand the language. The England spinner heard everything and acted like he didn’t understand.

“I can speak Hindi and Punjabi to a great extent. MSD thought I didn’t understand. I heard everything, but I also acted like MSD, as if I didn’t hear anything. I heard and (then) acted as if I didn’t hear anything. But I knew everything,” he stated.

“And believe me, he has done this a number of times and got wickets. And that’s what I love about MS Dhoni and I am proud that I have played against him,” Panesar added

Recently, MS Dhoni shocked the world by announcing his retirement from international cricket on the 15th of August, after which tributes were showered by people across the world admiring his greatness.

The cricketing world salutes MS Dhoni for the name he made for himself and his country at the biggest stage of the sport of cricket. MS Dhoni played his last game in the Indian colours during the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
