Morne Morkel has been ruled out of the second Test and the limited overs series against Bangladesh. The lanky pacer left the field on the fourth day of the Test match in the sixth over of Bangladesh’s second innings and did not turn up again. Till then, he had already given two early jitters to Bangladesh, in the very first over of the game.

He complained about pain in left abdominal oblique muscle and then underwent scans, which confirmed about his further unavailability. With this, Morkel also joined the list of injured pacers in the recent time.
Before the start of the series, Vernon Philander and Chris Morris were already ruled out due to injuries. Dale Steyn had also talked about needing some time, and Morkel is the fourth pacer to join this list.

South African selectors have called up Dane Paterson to replace the experienced pacer. He posses an experience of 85 first-class games and was also part of South Africa A team on India A’s recent tour of the country. Paterson has already represented the country in four T20Is.

The second Test between South Africa and Bangladesh will start on October 6 at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. A three-match ODI series followed by two T20Is will mark an end to Bangladesh’s stay in the country.
Currently, hosts are leading the Test series by a margin of 1-0, by defeating visitors in the first Test by a margin of 333 runs.
