Mosaddek Hossain Likely to Miss South Africa Tour Due to Eye Infection

The rookie Bangladesh middle-order batsman Mossadek Hossain has slender of a chance to feature in the Bangladesh’s tour to South Africa, as the Mymensingh-born batter is still recovering from the severe eye infection.

“We are sending him there as per the advice of our local eye specialists. This is not a dangerous infection, but it will take time for him to fully recover,” BCB physician Dr. Debashish Chowdhury was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

The 21-year-old all-rounder is expected to take some time before recovering fully, as the Bangladesh’s team doctor suggested Mossaddek to under a check-up in Bangkok.

“We have scheduled [an appointment] with an eye specialist in Bangkok for Tuesday [September 12] and we are expecting that Mosaddek will get his visa [on Sunday],” Chowdhury added.

On the other side, left-arm orthodox spinner Sanjamul Islam is also bound to visit Thailand for the same reason following the decision of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“We also have another appointment on Thursday [September 14],” Chowdhury maintained.

The BCB physician revealed the treatment would not be different, but they are looking forward to hearing from the specialists regarding the eye treatment.

“The treatment most likely will be the same as our eye specialists advised but we are still sending him to get a second opinion,” Chowdhury reiterated.

Earlier, during the recently concluded Test series against Australia which ended in a 1-1 draw, Hossain was named in the first Test squad by the Tigers’ national selectors, and eventually, he pulled out of the competition, as Mominul Haque was introduced in the team.

The reports suggested it’s highly unlikely to see Mossadek being named in the squad by BCB for the five-day games.

On the other side, scans revealed the slow-bowling all-rounder Mehedi Hasan has nothing to worry about his finger after undergoing X-ray report.

Mossadex has featured in a solitary Test game against Sri Lanka in March at Colombo this year. The batsman scored at an average of 44, as he posted 88 in two innings which included his best of 75.

Concluding, Bangladesh is expected to field pace-heavy attack in the forthcoming series where surface offers a lot for the fast-bowlers after being hinted by the BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin.

However, fast bowler Kamrul Islam is expected to be the part of the squad after missing out on the home series following the spin-friendly conditions at their backyard.

“We can now compete with any team in the world and don’t forget Shakib bhai [Shakib Al Hasan] scored a double hundred in New Zealand on a bouncy wicket,” Kamrul concluded.

Mushfiqur Rahim-led side is scheduled to play two-match Test series which will kick start from September 28 (Thursday).

The bilateral series would further witness three One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals.

It’s pertinent to state that the Proteas are scheduled to fly on September 16 to Africa, before featuring in a three-day practice game on September 21 at Benoni.
