Bangladesh’s young all-rounder Mossadek Hossain is set to miss the limited overs series against South Africa due to a viral eye infection. Mossadek who missed the two-match Test series against Australia due to the same reason, he was ruled out of the Test series against South Africa as well. After some eye tests, Mossadek was also ruled out of the ODI and T20 series against South Africa.

Mossadek made his international ODI debut against Afghanistan in 2016. He achieved a rare feat in his first ODI when he became the first bowler to pick up a wicket on the very first delivery he bowled in international cricket. Hossain was disappointed on missing out from the action and said:

“I don’t know what lies ahead, There is no drastic improvement and I am not sure when it will be cured.”

However, Bangladesh board hasn’t announced the squad for the limited overs format, team’s physician Debashish Chowdhury was not very optimistic about Hossain’s chances to play in the ODI series. He said:

“They are saying it can take three to six months (for recovery), No one can give a definite time limit so it will be kind of a miracle if he can make it into the ODI squad for South Africa.”

Chowdhury, however, believes that Hossian’s condition has improved and isn’t that bad as it used to be.

“There will be no problem for him to play after getting back his vision clearly,” he said. “Earlier he was struggling for the whole day but now that is not the case, which is encouraging.”

Hossain went to Bangkok on the recommendation of some local doctors but had no doctor could give an accurate time frame for the recovery. Chowdhury added:

“We sent him there (Bangkok) as per the advice of our local eye specialists. This is not a dangerous infection but it will take time for him to fully recover. The treatment most likely will be the same as our eye specialists advised but we still sent him to get a second opinion.”
