Stats: Most Double Centuries By an Indian In Test Cricket

India have produced many wonderful batsmen over the years. Many have managed to earn their place in all-time greats of the game.

There have been so many batsmen who made their debut to India at test level. However, only a few have managed to score a hundred. But to become a great player for any country, the player needs to score big hundreds, and only a few have managed to convert their hundreds into double hundreds for India.

Here we look at the top 5 players who have managed to score double hundreds in test cricket for India.

#5. Sunil Gavaskar

The first ever batsman to reach 10000 test runs, Sunil Gavaskar was an all-time great in world cricket. His ability to score in all the conditions have made him the most important batsman for India during his playing days.

Gavaskar has managed an impressive four double centuries in his 125 test matches with the highest score of 236*.

#4. Rahul Dravid

Arguably the most talented test batsman for India ever, Rahul Dravid was the cornerstone of Indian batting lineup during his playing days.

The overseas success for India during the 2000s can be largely credited to the legendary middle order of India and Dravid had played his part. He managed to score an impressive five double hundreds in his stellar career.

#3. Sachin Tendulkar

The greatest of all time, Sachin Tendulkar had scored runs against every world class bowler during his 24 years stay in international cricket.

The bowlers were jinxed while facing the master during his prime. Perhaps the only record he never managed was a triple hundred to his name, but the master had scored six double centuries to compensate it.

#2. Virender Sehwag

The most devastating batsman in test cricket, Virender Sehwag boasted an unbelievable strike rate of over 80.

He managed to score two triple hundreds to his name and add to that another six double hundreds which sum-up his incredible test career.

The Delhi born Virat Kohli has been at the peak of his powers over the past couple of years. The 29-year old is playing at his best since he was made the captain of the side.

Having not managed a single, double century till last June, Kohli have scored six double hundreds in just 17 months. Since, he already managed double hundreds, it remains to be seen how many more records he will break in the years to come.
