Most Half-Centuries in the IPL by players before the age of 21
The IPL acts as a big stage for budding cricketers to prove their worth and to show why they deserve a place in the national team. The cash rich league has given a career to many fringe players who have been in the domestic circuit for a long time and have not been recognized. Some young players have taken the opportunity with both hands and have shown the world that age is just a number.
Here is list of players who have scored most half-centuries before the age of 21:
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals team, Sampson burst into the scene with a fearless knock to take the Royals home when he was given a chance up the order. He has now become a main stay in the Rajasthan middle order and has given them the stability needed for the line-up. Sampson who is 20 has made a strong case for a chance in the national team and seems to be a good prospect for the future. Sampson has knocked 4 half centuries already for the Royals and is all set for the emerging player award in the IPL this season.
Another youngster who has set this seasons IPL alight in a team filled with super stars, Shreyas Iyer has been the find of the season for Indian Cricket. Iyer who has opened the innings for the Delhi Daredevils has shown a touch of class in getting his 4 half centuries and has given his team something to cheer about. He has the joint highest scores of more than 50 along with Sanju Sampson.
Tiwary who started his career in the IPL with the Mumbai Indians has already capped a national spot and has been knocking on the doors of the BCCI for a long time. Still 20, Tiwary seems to be just the kind of big hitter that the team is missing in terms of finishing games. Tiwary has scored 3 half centuries in his career and plays for the RCB has found a place in the star studded line up.
Already an established international player, Rahane who also holds the orange cap in this season’s IPL has proved his consistency and his importance to the team. The Royals who have had great joy in the early part of the league have benefitted playing around Rahane who accumulates his runs in a silent but efficient manner. Before he turned 22, he had scored 2 half centuries in the IPL and gave the Indian glimpse of bright future.
Another youngster who has shown that the stage of the IPL does not dictate the young minds, Mandeep Singh who plays for the KIXP has shown what he can do with the bat in the previous season when KIXP went on only to lose in the final. Though Mandeep has not had a good season this year, he is technically very good. He has scored 2 half centuries already before turning 22 (he is 23 now) and has a lot of cricket ahead in his career.
