Mothers React After Seeing Their Son Sporting Their Names On Jersey
The Indian cricketers won millions of hearts when they came out in the field during the final ODI of the recently concluded series against New Zealand. In a first of its kind, the Indian players wore jerseys bearing their mother’s names instead of their own. The inspirational initiative – Nayi Soch – is part of a new campaign started by Star India in collaboration with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to highlight the importance of mothers in our lives.
When MS Dhoni was asked about the reason behind the noble gesture,he said that every mother plays an important role in her child’s life and it was a tribute for all them. As expected, the mothers of Indian cricketers were elated with their sons’ efforts.
As quoted in the Deccan Chronicle, Dhoni’s mother, Devaki said:“Achcha lagta hai.”
Daljit Bumrah, the mother of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, said that she became emotional after watching her son sporting her name on the jersey.
“It was a very emotional moment when I saw my name on my son’s jersey. He has made me famous worldwide,” she said.
“It was a proud moment for all mothers and we thank God for that. For me Diwali came a day earlier when I saw this and had tears of gratitude and happiness in my eyes,” she added.
The bowler’s mother further said that it was not fair to take the credit from the players who worked really hard to realise their dreams.
“Although I appreciate this acknowledgement, they (the players) should have their own names too as they all have worked so hard to reach this position,” she said.
Jayant Yadav, who was making his debut in that match, made the day even more emotional when he apologised to his second mother for not sporting her name on his jersey. He wanted to inscribe the name of his biological mother (Lakshmi) as well as his second mother but due to some mix up it did not happen and he wore the jersey with only his biological mother’s name printed on it.
However, his second mother, Jyoti is not disappointed with it and said:“It is fine. I have absolutely no problems with it.”
The report claimed that Yadav’s sister requested that the player should change the name from the next game if the practice continues.
Axar Patel’s parents missed the opportunity to see the match due to a trip in Kerela but expressed their delight over the gesture. Axar’s mother said:“We only heard about it and we are on cloud nine.”
Amit Mishra’s mother, Chandrakali also missed the game as she was admitted to a hospital due to health problems but Mishra’s sister said that they had conveyed the message to her.
She said: “We have informed her about Amit’s performance and the jersey. On hearing this she was very happy.”
