Who is the better captain of India MS Dhoni or Sourav Ganguly? This is the never-ending question. Both the former captains have led the team to new heights. Ganguly took out the team from crises when the allegations of match-fixing surrounded India. On the other hand, Dhoni has given India three ICC trophies. Then who is greater?. It is a debatable topic. Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan has given his opinion on the same subject.
Ganguly took over the captaincy in 2000 after Sachin Tendulkar resigned from the post. He built up a new team that started winning the overseas matches, but the former cricketer was soon surrounded by controversies and was dropped from the team.

In 2007, Dhoni was named the T20I captain after which India started winning the trophies. First, the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2007 then he led the team to the 2011 World Cup victory. In 2013, the team won the ICC Champions trophy. His captaincy at the large events made him the successful captain of India.
Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan, who has played four Test matches and nine ODIs, selected Dhoni as the better captain. He also gave the reason behind his selection. He said that the Ganguly started off really well but then struggled to regain his spot whereas Dhoni was performing regularly even after holding the position.
In comparison with Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni is ahead: Atul Wassan

“Dhoni..because Dhoni across the formats because Ganguly…. he started it off very well but eventually you have to keep your game also so that you don’t struggle for your spoil,” Atul Wassan said.
“Captain is someone, who is decided after your team is built, if you’re selected for captaincy, then in that comparison Dhoni is ahead,” he explained.
Dhoni left the captaincy of Test cricket in 2014 while in 2017, he gave away the captaincy in white-ball cricket. He last featured with the team in the 2019 World Cup.
