ToggleMS Dhoni has just returned Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) camp as we’re 25-odd days away to witness the IPL 2020. Recently, the CSK captain has revealed how he feels when the Chennai fans call him ‘Thala’ instead of calling him by his name.
The Indian cricket fans have missed Dhoni since the heartbreaking semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
However, the cricket fans in Chennai are happy now because Dhoni has returned to the net and he is busy to prepare for the upcoming 13th edition of the IPL season.
IPL 2020: MS Dhoni returns after a sabbatical
CSK is one of the most successful teams in T20 cricket. Apart from winning three IPL trophies, the Chennai-based franchise also won two trophies in the now-defunct Champions League T20 history.
The Chennai-based franchise has achieved greater heights under the leadership of Dhoni. He will again lead the team in the upcoming IPL season.
Dhoni claimed that CSK journey had helped him to improve in everything, including as a cricketer or evolving as a person.
On Return of the Lion show on Star Sports Network, Dhoni said, “This journey started in 2008, CSK has helped me improve in everything whether it was being a human being or being a cricketer, handling situations that are tough both in and out of the field and how to be humble once you are doing well.”
‘Thala’ basically means brother: MS Dhoni
Dhoni is leading CSK since the inaugural edition (2008) of the IPL. While the Chennai and other neighbour areas saw fans are emotionally attached with the former Indian captain, they call him Thala – which means brother.
He feels love and respect from the CSK fans when they call him ‘Thala’.
CSK captain added, “‘Thala’ basically means brother, so for me, it’s more the abstract of the fans, the love and affection towards me is the reflection of that. Whenever I am in Chennai or down South they never call me by my name they address me as ‘Thala’ and the moment someone calls me Thala they are showing their love and respect but at the same time he is a CSK fan.”
The forthcoming IPL season will run between 29th March and 24th May. The fans are eagerly waiting to see Dhoni in the IPL 2020.
While he hasn’t involved in cricket for more than last seven months, some believe that he will begin the IPL 2020 in his own style. This upcoming IPL tournament can bring a better light on the uncertain future of Dhoni’s cricket career.
