MS Dhoni has got two new records to his name. Yesterday when he entered the ground, he beat the last record held by Sourav Ganguly of leading Team India in 28 matches on a foreign soil as this happens to be Dhoni’s 29th test match as Indian captain. Earlier Dhoni has beaten the record of Nawab Pataudi when he led Team India in 12th test match against Australia.
Apart from the above, MS Dhoni became India’s most capped Test wicket-keeper when he began to the field during the second Test between Australia and India at the Gabba, Brisbane. This is the 89th Test cap that Dhoni has earned, which takes him one ahead of World Cup-winner Syed Kirmani who had played 88 matches as the wicket keeper.
The Ranchi-born cricketer who has the reputation of captain cool, made his debut in the longest format of the game, against Sri Lanka in 2005 and he has already got two world cups and a Champion trophy win to his credit. He has got a large number of records in all the formats of the game.
In the 89 Tests he has played so far, this vibrant 33-year-old cricketer has captained the side in 59 of those matches. With his timely knock of 33 in India’s first innings at the Gabba, he now has 4841 Test runs to his name.
His highest score in Test cricket also came against Australia at Chennai in 2013, where he smashed brilliant 224. During that particular knock, he also became the first Indian wicket-keeper to register a double century at the international level.
Well let us hope that he will be able to score a ton in the current series as only this task of scoring a test century outside India is yet to be accomplished.
